Erika Cruz has come a long way since losing her second professional bout and shot to stardom with victory over long-reigning WBA Featherweight champion Jelena Mrdjenovich in April 2021.
The Mexican southpaw got the nod against the champion of five-years after an accidental clash of heads halted the fight after seven rounds before going on to defend her titles on two more occasions.
Cruz secured an Undisputed mega fight with 126lb ruler Amanda Serrano in February 2023 at a sold out Hulu Theater in New York. The 33-year-old fell short in a 10-round war with the Puerto Rican star but saw her stock rise in a gutsy, all-action performance.
Cruz opted to drop down to Bantamweight after defeat to Serrano and it proved a masterstroke. She bounced back with a win over Melissa Parker in Mexico before defeating WBA World Champion Mayerlin Rivas in November to become a two-weight World Champion.
Dinamita made the first defence of her new World Title in May 2024 on the undercard of Eduardo Hernandez-Daniel Lugo against big punching mandatory challenger Nazarena Romero. The two battled to a split decision draw, with Cruz retaining her belt.
