Gamal Yafai

about

Gamal Yafai found himself walking out to almost 80,000 people as the live float just before Carl Froch and George Groves' huge rematch at Wembley Stadium back in May 2014 and he treated the crowd to a first round stoppage of Jack Heath.

'The Beast' won the Commonwealth Super-Bantamweight Title after just nine professional fights with a seventh round KO of Bobby Jenkinson in his home city of Birmingham. Yafai defended it once before moving on to win the WBC International Super-Bantamweight Title against Sean Davis in May 2017.

Yafai tasted his first defeat as a pro to former World Title challenger Gavin McDonnell, relinquishing his WBC International Title in the process, in March 2018. Yafai bounced back with three straight stoppage victories before winning the European Super-Bantamweight Title against champion Luca Rigoldi in Milan in December 2020.

The 31-year-old suffered the second loss of his career in his first defence of his European strap, coming up short against Jason Cunningham in Manchester in May 2021. Yafai knocked out Sean Cairns in Cardiff in his comeback fight before stomaching a brutal loss to Diego Alberto Ruiz on the undercard of Leigh Wood-Mauricio Lara in Nottingham in February 2023.
