Sivenathi Nontshinga earned a promotional deal with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing in September 2022 after his pulsating split decision victory over Hector Flores in Mexico to land the IBF Light-Flyweight title.
‘The Special One’ received a hero's welcome on return to South Africa after his Fight of the Year contender on the undercard of Estrada-Cortes.
Nontshinga made his first World Title defence back home in South Africa, dropping the unbeaten Regie Suganob en route to a UD victory in July 2023.
Nontshinga made the second defence of his Light-Flyweight Title against Mexican Adrian Curiel on the undercard of Joe Cordina-Edward Vazquez in November but was handed a shock second round KO defeat to relinquish his belt.
The Special One jumped into an immediate rematch with Curiel just three months later, travelling to Oaxaca in Mexico. Nontshinga produced another memorable performance to stop the Champion in round 10 to reclaim his title.
