Richardson Hitchins turned over as professional with Mayweather Promotions after the 2016 Olympics and made his debut in the paid ranks the following year. His first six fights all took place in his hometown Brooklyn, featuring on the undercards of the likes of Jermell Charlo, Keith Thurman and Deontay Wilder.

The 27-year-old built to 14-0 under the guidance of Floyd Mayweather Jnr before signing for Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing in September 2022. The rising Super-Lightweight star made his debut under the Matchroom banner in Cleveland in November 2022 and secured an eighth-round stoppage victory over Yomar Alamo.

Hitchins secured a main bill homecoming fight in New York against 17-0 John Bauza on the undercard of Amanda Serrano-Erika Cruz in February 2023, where he added the USWBC Super-Lightweight Title to his IBF North American strap with a dominant shut-out victory.

The 140lb sensation dispatched of former three-time World Title challenger Jose Zepeda in his headline bout in September before defeating 29-0 Gustavo Lemos in April to become the mandatory challenger for the IBF World Junior Welterweight Title.

Hitchins enforced his mandatory shot in December 2024 after watching Liam Paro take the belt from Subriel Matias earlier in the year. The World Title showdown took place in Puerto Rico, with Hitchins making the necessary adjustments during the fight to run out with a split decision win and pick up his first World Title.
