Puerto Rican amateur star Yankiel Rivera signed a multi-fight deal with Eddie Hearn in January 2023 and made his Matchroom debut on the undercard of Amanda Serrano-Erika Cruz in New York a week later, picking up a decision victory to move to 3-0 (2 KOs).
Rivera turned pro in Barranquilla, Colombia in September with a first round KO win and quickly made it two wins inside the distance with a third round KO in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico in November 2022.
The 26-year-old, campaigning at Flyweight, was Puerto Rico’s sole representative at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, just one stand out moment from an amateur career that boasted a record of 133-14, winning a host of medals and twice fighting at the World Championships.
Rivera made his second outing under the Matchroom umbrella back in New York in June, this time on the undercard of Edgar Berlanga. In just his fourth pro fight, Rivera stepped up against 9-0 Christian Robles. He dropped the Mexican fighter hard before going the distance for a points victory.
Yankiel was back on a Berlanga undercard in February 2024, taking a huge step up against 10-0 Andy Dominguez. El Doctorcito survived a huge ninth round scare to take a wide points victory in Orlando and pick up the WBA & WBC Continental Americas Flyweight Titles.
