In the Community: Johnny Fisher x The Brewery, Romford

We can't lose the spirit of community.
- Johnny Fisher
Reflecting on the deep-rooted pride that he has for his hometown, Johnny Fisher spoke passionately about the significance of representing Romford on the global stage.
“The Romford community is important to me because it’s part of my own history, it’s part of my family history and it’s where I was born and raised – I’ve got pride in that,” beamed Fisher.
“I’ve got fond memories of growing up around Romford. It’s important now, as we go on to a bigger stage with the sport that we’re doing, that we represent it with pride. It wasn’t just my family that raised me. The people of Romford, the friends that I’ve got around Romford, they’re all part of what’s raised me as well. In turn, it will be the same for the younger generations coming through,” he continued.
“The community is a vehicle to raise children, to raise people and make them successful as they move forward in their lives, so we can’t lose the spirit of community.”

The event served as far more than just a simple a meet-and-greet. Fisher led an open training session, offering attendees an intimate look at the intense preparation behind his career defining bout against Allen in Riyadh. His passion for the sport was obvious and the session provided a glimpse into the discipline and dedication required at the elite level of heavyweight boxing.
Central to the day’s success was the involvement of local boxing clubs, underscoring Fisher’s roots and his dedication to fostering talent in his community. Representatives from Brentwood Central ABC, Longs ABC and Lion Boxing Academy participated, demonstrating their skills through live exhibitions. These clubs, rich in history and talent, represent the lifeblood of grassroots boxing – and their involvement highlighted the importance of community collaboration.

One of the day’s standout features was the inclusion of Golden Gloves VR, which brought a modern, tech-forward element to the festivities. Fans immersed themselves in a virtual reality boxing experience, trading punches in a custom designed Romford Bull, Matchroom and DAZN themed arena. This innovative feature didn’t just engage the younger audience, but also illustrated the exciting possibilities for merging technology with traditional sports. Even Big John got involved, showing the fans in attendance how it’s done with an impressive performance.
Our partners at Everlast also contributed significantly to the day’s celebratory atmosphere, providing each attendee with a specially designed Team Fisher t-shirt, a thoughtful memento symbolising the unity that Fisher has developed with fans in his hometown.
