BUD LIGHT BACK LOPEZ VS. KAMBOSOS JR
November 27 2021
Matchroom are delighted to announce Beer giants Bud Light as an official partner for Saturday night’s blockbuster showdown between Teofimo Lopez and George Kambosos Jr. for Lopez’s IBF, WBO, WBA, WBC Franchise & Ring Magazine World Lightweight titles, at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York, live worldwide on DAZN.
Lopez (16-0 12 KOs) finally puts his belts on the line against his IBF mandatory, ending a long-running saga between the champion and the unbeaten Australian, with two previous attempts to stage the fight having fallen through.
‘The Takeover’ recently struck his own deal with Bud Light as he returns to the ring for the first time in a year since adding Vasiliy Lomachenko belts to his IBF crown in Las Vegas last October in a stunning display. The 24 year old returns to his city of birth where he set up that fight with a brutal KO win over Richard Commey at MSG in December 2019.
Kambosos Jr (19-0 10 KOs) landed the mandatory slot with a career-best win over Lee Selby in London, England in October 2020, and the Australian has cut a bullish figure in the Big Apple as the rising tensions between both fighters and their camps finally close tonight in Manhattan.
“Bud Light is excited to be part of the biggest fight of the year as Teofimo Lopez defends his title” said Joe Barnes, Director of Sports Marketing for Bud Light. “There is no better way for New Yorkers to celebrate the return of the hometown kid than an ice-cold Bud Light in MSG.”
“I am delighted to have Bud Light join us as an official partner for this blockbuster night,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “Having a giant like them backing the show just shows how big this fight is and that boxing is up amongst the big guns when it comes to commercial interest, which can only be a good thing for the future of this great sport.”
Lopez and Kambosos clash on a huge night of action in New York, with chief support provided by the battle for the vacant IBF World Super-Featherweight title between Azinga Fuzile (15-1 9 KOs) and Kenichi Ogawa (25-1-1 28 KOs).
Raymond Ford (9-0-1 5 KOs) clashes with Felix Caraballo (13-3-2 9 KOs) over ten rounds, Chinese Heavyweight Zhilei Zhang (22-0-1 17 KOs) takes on Craig Lewis (14-4-1 8 KOs) over eight rounds, Ramla Ali (3-0) makes it back to back fights in America in a six rounder against Isela Vera (1-0), there’s a second female fight on the card with New York’s own Christina Cruz (1-0) meets Maryguenn Vellinga (3-1-2 2 KOs) over four rounds and Anthony Herrera kicks off the night in his professional debut against fellow debutant Jonathan Daniel Herrera Tejeda.
