Fielding: I Will Stop Brian Vera
June 8 2015
Rocky Fielding says he will make a big statement at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Friday June 26 – by knocking out Brian Vera live on Sky Sports.
Fielding faces the highly-rated Texan on a huge night of action on Merseyside, with the Super Middleweight division firmly in the spotlight as Callum Smith takes on former European champion Christopher Rebrasse.
Vera holds impressive wins over Serhiy Dzinziruk and a pair of victories over Sergio Mora, and has taken World stars Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, Andy Lee and Willie Munroe Jr the distance – so Fielding believes that stopping the 33 year old in the biggest fight of his career will prove he is ready to challenge for world honours.
“The better the opponent in front of me, the better I will perform,” said Fielding. “I’m confident that when Vera feels my power and what I can do – he won’t want to know. I’m keen to get him out of there via a stoppage – Chavez Jr couldn’t do that on either occasion, nor could Monroe Jr – it would make a real statement.
“I’ve been watching footage of Vera with my trainer Oliver Harrison. I don’t expect anything too different from him stylistically. He has good fitness and I expect him to come forward and try chop away at me – but I’ll break him down as the fight progresses.
“It’s a massive fight for me and if I have to produce a big performance – do that and it can really put me in to the mix on the world stage.
“After this fight I will sit round with my team and plan our next move. I don’t feel too far away from a World title fight, maybe another tough fight after this – then I will be ready.
“I want to prove that I’m World class, the things I do in the gym with Oliver demonstrate that – it’s just making the transition in to fight night.”
Fielding’s clash with Vera is part of a huge night of action on Merseyside with Smith clashing with Rebrasse, Tony Bellew facing the experienced Czech Lubos Suda as he closes in on a mooted autumn World title clash with IBF king Yoan Hernandez and new Matchroom signing Martin Murray making his debut at Super Middleweight.
