Johnson, Morrison, Bellotti And Ball Join Matchroom Boxing
June 30 2015
Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing are delighted to announce that Callum Johnson, Marcus Morrison, Reece Bellotti and Jake Ball have all signed promotional deals with the company.
Commonwealth Gold medal star Johnson moved to 13-0 in the paid ranks at the Echo Arena on Saturday and the Lincolnshire Light Heavyweight will return to action in Leeds on September 5 on the undercard of Josh Warrington’s clash with Joel Brunker.
Johnson’s Joe Gallagher gym-mate Morrison took his record to 5-0 on Merseyside with a third successive win inside the distance and the 22 year old Middleweight will box on home turf in Manchester on July 18.
After winning back-to-back ABA titles, Bellotti made his debut on the Matchroom Fight Pass show at York Hall on May 28 with an explosive first round KO win, and the Watford Featherweight will be looking to impress again at the Bethnal Green home of boxing on Saturday night.
Like Bellotti, amateur talent Ball will be trainer by former World champion and mentor of new IBF Super Middleweight World champion James DeGale MBE and the 22 year old former Team GB prospect will make his debut at The O2 on September 12.
“It’s great to be joining Matchroom – it’s the best platform you can have, I’m looking forward to it,” said Bellotti. “My old amateur trainer put me in touch with Jim McDonnell as he was a friend of their family – I went on the pads with Jimmy Mac Jnr and he was impressed with my technique and power.
“I’m confident my fan base in Watford will grow and grow as I progress – already I have a good following to my shows.”
Ball said: “With Eddie and Jim behind me I have the best team around me to reach the top. I’m still young and I probably won’t be fully matured until my mid-to-late 20s, but I am a big Light Heavyweight and I am looking to make a big impact. I’m really excited to be boxing on Sky Sports and making my debut at The O2 – I cannot ask for a better start.”
Hearn added: “I’m delighted to welcome Callum, Marcus, Reece and Jake to the team. Callum has been one of the biggest talent in the Light Heavyweight division for a while and now it’s time to push the button and start challenging for titles. Marcus is a class act, I’ve been really impressed with the way him and Joe Gallagher have been going about their business and he already has a big following.
“Reece is so exciting. He carries devastating power in both hands and has a perfect style for the paid ranks. Jake impressed me so much as chief sparring partner for DeGale in the build up to the Dirrell fight, he is a big strong southpaw that will move quickly in the division – under the tutelage of Jimmy Mac, I expect both Reece and Jake to excel in the pro game.”
