The Hammer secures World title shot

Kevin Mitchell took a huge step towards a shot at a World title fight with a first-class display against Mexican Daniel Estrada to land the Vacant WBC Silver Lightweight title with an eighth-round stoppage at London’s O2 Arena.

In what he described as the best performance of his career, Mitchell cemented his position as number one challenger to WBC king Jorge Linares with a clinical victory.

The east Londoner outclassed his opponent, dominating the fight before a left uppercut proved the final blow before the referee called an end to proceedings.

Earlier in the night John Wayne Hibbert defended his WBC International Light Welterweight title with an eighth-round stoppage win over a brave and battling Tyler Goodjohn.

John Ryder beat Billi Godoy when the referee stopped the contest one minute and 52 seconds into the tenth round after a blistering left hand from Ryder put the Argentine on the canvas.

Former Team GB star Charlie Edwards put in an impressive performance on his debut, stopping Craig Derbyshire with six seconds of the contest remaining.
