about

Newcastle Lightweight amateur standout Cameron Vuong signed a long-term promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing in June 2023 and will make his anticipated professional debut later this year.

Part of the thriving Birtley Boxing Club in the North East of England, 20-year-old Cameron trains under the watchful eye of head trainer Graeme Rutherford alongside the likes of Cyrus Pattinson, Mark Dickinson and Calum French.

Cameron won the Senior Elite ABA Title at Lightweight in April and then the Tri-Nation Title the following month before teaming up with Sam Jones earlier this month, who will guide his career alongside Matchroom.

Vuong made his pro debut on the undercard of Leigh Wood-Josh Warrington in October 2023 and caught the eye with an impressive fourth round stoppage of Engel Gomez.

Back out in November, Vuong went the six round distance against John Henry Mosquera as chief support in front a home Newcastle crowd, before stopping Michal Dufek in four in his third pro fight in less than two months to close out 2023.

Vuong stepped up against Ishmael Ellis to make his London debut in February, stopping the durable Lightweight in the sixth round, one round quicker than Harlem Eubank who faced Ellis in his 18th fight. Jordan Flynn entered the ring after the fight to set up their grudge match in Manchester on April 13.

Vuong had to withdraw from their April 13 date due to injury before Flynn did the same when they were next due to face off on June 22. Vuong remained on the show however, stepping up to 10 rounds to face the durable Jeff Ofori. The One gained invaluable experience in his first 10-round fight, taking a wide points win.

Originally scheduled to feature on the Dixon-Harper undercard in Sheffield on September 28, Vuong's fight with Joe Underwood Hughes was brought forward 10 days to instead headline one of three live fights after the Joshua-Dubois public workout in London. In a solid eight-round learning fight, Vuong looked very good and now moves on to fight one more time in 2024.

In just his seventh pro fight, Vuong took a serious step up against former European champion Gavin Gwynne on the undercard of Sunny Edwards-Galal Yafai to close out the year. In a very, very close fight, Vuong got the nod on all three judges scorecards.
