Berlanga and Cruz stun youngsters at Orlando Boxing Club!

Headline act, Edgar Berlanga and Cuban sensation, Andy Cruz wowed junior members from Orlando Boxing Club in Florida this evening at a special event, organised in partnership with Everlast.

Proud of his Puerto Rican roots, Berlanga was keen to connect with the local Latin American community ahead of his hotly anticipated contest with Belfast’s Pody McCrory on Saturday night – with Cruz, arguably the hottest prospect in world boxing – and fellow Spanish speaker – his perfect companion.

Both fighters spoke to youngsters about their respective journeys and experiences in boxing, providing hope and inspiration to the next generation – and even some sparring tips!

Everyone in attendance left with a selection of new kit and signed equipment, with Cruz providing his own demonstration of how to use the Everlast Powerlock Reflex Ball like a pro!

The main thing is discipline!

- Edgar Berlanga

Speaking to the gathered youngsters in attendance, Edgar Berlanga was keen to express how settled he feels in Orlando ahead of the biggest fight of his career to date.

“I want to thank you guys for having us here. There’s a big fight this Saturday – I’m the main event – I’m happy to be back. I consider Orlando a second home,” stated Berlanga.

“I’m from New York, but I actually live over here now in Tampa – so I just wanted to thank you guys for the support.”

Berlanga continued by highlighting what he believes is the most important characteristic for an aspiring boxer to focus on.

“One thing I can say is, as far as training goes for the younger guys and anyone that wants to be successful in boxing – and in life, the main thing is discipline,” said Berlanga.

“As big as I am right now and as much as I’m growing, I’m learning that discipline is the most important thing. It isn’t motivation, it isn’t a lot of things – it’s discipline,” he continued.

“And whatever you want to do, for the young kids and anyone that’s out there, it’s discipline first. Hard work, discipline and keep God first.”

Attention now turns to fight night, with both Berlanga and Cruz in action against tough and respected opponents in Pody McCrory and Brayan Zamarripa Rodriguez respectively – live on DAZN from the Caribe Royale Resort, Orlando.
