about

Cuban amateur sensation Andy Cruz signed a long-term deal with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom in May 2023.

Cruz struck gold at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in the Lightweight division against Keyshawn Davis in the delayed games in August 2021 and added an incredible third straight AIBA World Championship gold at Light-Welterweight in Serbia three months later, putting that medal next to those he landed at the World Championships in Germany and Russia in 2017 and 2019.

The 27-year-old, who also won two Pan American Games gold medals in 2015 and 2019, leaves behind a storied career in the amateur code and turns his focus to the paid ranks.

Cruz made his eagerly anticipated pro debut in July 2023 on the undercard of Alycia Baumgardner-Christina Linardatou 2 as chief support in a 10-rounder against former World Title challenger Juan Carlos Burgos. The Diamond impressed to a unanimous decision victory and picked up the IBF International Lightweight Title in Detroit.

The Cuban sensation returned for fight No.2 on the undercard of Haney-Prograis in against former IBO World Champion Jovanni Straffon as a late replacement. Cruz dazzled to a third round stoppage to put the Lightweight division on notice.

Back out just two months later, Cruz took on the durable Brayan Zamarripa, who previously lost a close split decision contest to Angel Fierro in 2023. Cruz completely dominated the Mexican, outlanding his opponent 240 to 34 in punches. Cruz won every second of every round to move to 3-0.
