about

Rotherham Super-Welterweight Junaid Bostan signed a multi-fight promotional deal with Eddie Hearn as one of Matchroom Boxing’s later additions of 2022.

The 5-0 prospect is trained under the guidance of Grant Smith at the Steel City Gym alongside Dalton Smith and Sunny Edwards.

Boston is a double national champion and, before teaming up with Smith at the age of 12, spent his early boxing years under the late Brendan Ingle.

Boston stopped his first five opponents after putting down Peter Kramer on the undercard of Leigh Wood-Mauricio Lara in Nottingham in February 2023.

After a series of entertaining displays, Star Boy earned a slot on the main DAZN broadcast for the first time in support to stablemate Dalton Smith in July. Bostan was taken the distance for the first time as a professional, but banked eight valuable rounds against 10-0-1 Midlands Area champion Ryan Amos.

Bostan returned to knockout ways in his very next bout, stopping Corey McCulloch in the sixth round of their contest to land himself on the undercard of Sunny Edwards-Jesse Rodriguez in America on December 16.

Bostan had to dig deep in a big learning fight against American Gordie Russ II in what proved a fun build-up and fight on his US debut.

Star Boy made wholesale changes in and outside the ring following that night in America and returned all the better for it, with a demolition job over the very durable Jack Martin in Liverpool in April 2024. Bostan won his first pro title in the process, the Commonwealth Silver Super Welterweight Title and is now the mandatory challenger for the English 154lb belt.

Bostan made his second outing of the year as a late addition to the Jack Catterall-Regis Prograis undercard in October and produced a brilliant third round knockout with a peach of a body shot.

Star Boy stepped up through the levels to face former amateur standout and 9-1 pro Bilal Fawaz for the English Super Welterweight Title in London in January 2025. After an entertaining build-up on fight week, Bostan was forced to settle for a split draw in a very tough fight.
